Casablanca in 30 seconds
- Casablanca is Morocco’s money city: Casablanca Finance City ranked 38th worldwide and first in Africa in the GFCI 40 index published in autumn 2026.
- None of that infrastructure touches crypto. There is no licensed exchange, office or crypto ATM in the city, and the 2017 Office des Changes position still applies.
- Day-to-day buying goes through P2P with bank transfers (Attijariwafa, CIH, BMCE, Banque Populaire) or CashPlus deposits. At our latest check, prices sat around 10.34–10.40 MAD per USDT.
- Six-figure tickets are a different game: international OTC desks do not settle in dirhams, and the Office des Changes is now writing to residents with undeclared crypto abroad.
Why Casablanca matters for crypto, even without a crypto market
The usual way to buy crypto in Casablanca is P2P: you order USDT on Binance, Bybit or OKX and pay in dirhams by Attijariwafa or CIH transfer, or at a CashPlus agency. When we last checked, one USDT cost about 10.34–10.40 MAD. The city has no licensed crypto office, shop or ATM.
Most of Morocco’s private money passes through Casablanca at some point. The city of 3.22 million people (HCP census 2024) sits at the centre of the Casablanca-Settat region, home to about 7.69 million people, the largest in the country. It hosts the Casablanca Stock Exchange, the headquarters of the big banking groups and Casablanca Finance City, the business-district label that tops African financial-centre rankings.
CFC’s standing improved further in 2026. In GFCI 39, published in March, CFC climbed to 49th worldwide.Morocco World News In GFCI 40, released in autumn, it jumped another eleven places to 38th, kept the first African spot and also rose to 39th in the fintech sub-ranking.EcoActu, Oct 2026 Mauritius, Kigali and Johannesburg trail well behind.
And yet a resident who wants 500 dirhams of Bitcoin cannot walk into any of those towers. No bank, broker or payment institution in Casablanca may sell crypto. The joint warning issued in November 2017 by Bank Al-Maghrib, the AMMC and the Ministry of Finance has never been withdrawn, and neither has the Office des Changes statement of the same week. The paradox is the whole story of this city: world-class rails for dirhams, and a crypto market that lives entirely in apps and chat groups.
How do people buy crypto in Casablanca?
The mechanics are the same as elsewhere in Morocco, but the volume is not. Casablanca has more bank branches, more CashPlus and Wafacash counters and more salaried people with online banking than any other city, so P2P orders fill faster here. One industry blog that tracks Telegram advertising describes the informal “changeurs” network as concentrated in Casablanca and Rabat, with Binance P2P used as the settlement layer.TGAdsSpy · aggregator
Bank-transfer P2P: the default
In our most recent snapshot we counted roughly 610 USDT/MAD ads on Binance P2P, about 140 on Bybit and about 290 on OKX. The most common payment methods were Attijariwafa and CIH, each in more than 270 Binance ads, followed by BMCE (Bank of Africa) and Banque Populaire. The best buy prices were 10.34–10.40 MAD per USDT, roughly 6% above the aggregator dollar rate. That premium is the price of scarcity: buying dollars legally from a dirham account is hard, so sellers charge for it.
A typical Casablanca trade looks like this. You pick an advertiser with a long, clean history, open an order for, say, 3,000 MAD, and the platform locks the seller’s USDT in escrow. You transfer from your own account (never a relative’s), upload the receipt and wait for release, usually within 15 to 45 minutes. Then you swap USDT for BTC on the exchange in a few seconds. Our USDT/MAD P2P guide covers seller selection and receipt fraud in detail.
CashPlus and Wafacash deposits
For people who prefer not to use their bank account, some sellers accept a cash deposit at an agency. Cash Plus, which listed on the Casablanca Stock Exchange in 2025, ended that year with more than 5,200 agencies nationwide.Médias24 In Casablanca you are rarely more than a few streets from one. Expect a slightly higher premium and a slower release, because the seller has to check the deposit at their end.
Can you do a large OTC crypto trade from Casablanca?
Casablanca is where Morocco’s wealth concentrates, so it is also where the six-figure questions come from: the entrepreneur who sold a business, the family office, the doctor in Anfa with savings abroad. For them, a 24,000-dirham P2P cap, which many ads use, is a nuisance rather than a solution.
International OTC desks exist for exactly this size. Kraken and Bitget both publish minimums of around 100,000 dollars; OKX accepts block trades from $1,000 notional, but its desk is also built for large tickets. The catch is settlement: none of the desks we checked settles in dirhams. They want USD, EUR, GBP or crypto, which means a foreign bank account. For a Moroccan resident, holding one requires Office des Changes authorisation, and using it to buy crypto is precisely what the 2017 statement targets.
That risk is no longer theoretical. In spring 2026 the Office des Changes sent formal notices to residents suspected of holding crypto abroad, citing P2P transfers between March and August 2025 and giving them 30 days to explain.North Africa Post In December 2025 the press also reported a probe into Moroccan businesspeople suspected of moving funds through crypto. If you are in this bracket, read our OTC guide for Morocco and the tax and declaration page, and talk to a lawyer before you trade, not after.
Large holders do agree on one thing: custody. Leaving a seven-figure dirham sum on a P2P account is careless. Many keep coins either in self-custody (see our wallet guide) or on a large exchange with clear foreign licences; our ranking of the best crypto exchanges in Morocco compares them. CEX.IO is one example: it has operated since 2013, is registered with FinCEN in the US (NMLS 1804170), holds US state money-transmitter licences and runs an EU entity, CEX.IO Europe S.L., in Spain. It accepts Moroccan accounts but not Moroccan Visa or Mastercard deposits, so it is funded with crypto. No exchange, CEX.IO included, holds a Moroccan licence.
Open an account, deposit the USDT you bought on P2P and convert or hold it there.

Most Casablanca P2P never leaves the app. At our latest check, Binance showed zero “cash in person” USDT/MAD ads. Face-to-face cash deals happen through Telegram and WhatsApp contacts, outside any escrow, and that is where people get hurt: fake banknotes, robberies, and “dirty money” transfers that later freeze the receiver’s bank account.
Our advice is simple: avoid in-person cash trades. If you still decide to meet someone, these rules reduce the damage.
- Meet inside a bank branch, during opening hoursA branch lobby has cameras, staff and a counter. The buyer deposits the cash straight to your own account, and the deposit slip proves where it came from.
- Use the platform’s escrow anywayOpen the order on the app before you meet, so the coins are locked and released only by you.
- Check the money in your own appA screenshot or SMS is not proof. Release only when the credit appears in your banking app.
- Keep amounts small and go with someoneNever carry tens of thousands of dirhams, never get into a car, never go to a flat or a quiet café.
- Keep every recordOrder ID, deposit slip, chat history. You may need them for your bank or for the Office des Changes.

Neighbourhoods: where the rails concentrate
Casablanca’s bank density is not evenly spread. The heaviest clusters of branches and payment agencies sit along the Maarif and Twin Center axis, in Gauthier and the city centre around boulevard Mohammed V, and in the Sidi Maarouf business district near the ring road, which also hosts large corporate campuses. Casa Anfa, the newer business quarter, is where the CFC tower stands. These are simply the areas where you will find a branch of your own bank quickly if you need a deposit slip or a counter. They are not crypto venues, and no shop in any of them sells crypto legally.
The Casablanca tech and community scene
The Casablanca Technopark, opened in 2001, is the original home of Morocco’s startup network, which now also runs sites in Rabat, Tangier, Agadir and Essaouira. Its director told Médias24 in April 2026 that 35% of the startups it hosts already export.Médias24 We did not find a startup there that operates a licensed crypto service, which is logical while no licence exists.
The one sizeable crypto gathering on record is Binance’s closed meetup in Casablanca in March 2023. Médias24 described several hundred attendees, an English-language programme and a community that preferred discretion.Médias24 Since then we found no recurring public meetup in the city. Be wary of “Casablanca crypto clubs” that ask for an entry fee or a deposit: that pattern matches the AMMC warnings about fraudulent trading platforms.
Is there a crypto exchange office in Casablanca?
No, and the table below sums up what we looked for.
| Item | Status at our last check | Nearest real option |
|---|---|---|
| Crypto exchange office | None found | P2P on Binance, Bybit, OKX |
| Bitcoin ATM | None, see ATM guide | Málaga or Algeciras |
| OTC desk settling in MAD | None found | Foreign OTC desks, USD/EUR |
| Public crypto meetup | None recurring | GITEX Africa in Marrakech |
Our verdict: Casablanca is the easiest Moroccan city in which to buy small amounts of crypto, because liquidity and bank access are everywhere. It is not easier legally. If you are just starting, our step-by-step buying guide is the place to begin, and if you want to compare the capital next door, the Rabat page looks at the same market from the regulators’ side of the motorway. All ten are listed in our Moroccan city guides.

FAQ
Where can I buy Bitcoin in Casablanca?
There is no licensed crypto shop or exchange office in Casablanca. People buy USDT on P2P marketplaces such as Binance, Bybit or OKX, paying by transfer from Attijariwafa, CIH, Bank of Africa or Banque Populaire, or by a CashPlus deposit, and then swap USDT for Bitcoin on the exchange.
Is there a crypto exchange office in Casablanca?
No. We found no legal crypto office, kiosk or desk in Casablanca at the time of writing. Since 2017 the Office des Changes has treated crypto transactions as a breach of exchange rules, and draft law 42.25, which would license providers, has not been adopted. Treat any shop claiming to sell Bitcoin over the counter as a red flag.
Can I do a large crypto trade (OTC) from Casablanca?
International OTC desks such as Kraken's or Bitget's usually start around 100,000 dollars and settle in USD, EUR or crypto, never in dirhams. A Casablanca resident can only use them with a foreign account and a legal basis for holding it. Below that size, people split orders across several P2P sellers.
Is it safe to meet someone in Casablanca to buy crypto for cash?
It is the riskiest way to trade. If you do it, meet inside a bank branch during opening hours, have the cash deposited to your own account in front of you, and release coins only once your banking app shows the money. Never go to a flat, a car or a quiet café, and never carry large sums.
Did Binance hold an event in Casablanca?
Yes, a closed meetup in March 2023 that drew several hundred users, according to Médias24. It was invitation-only and held in English. We found no recurring public crypto meetup in Casablanca since then; most of the community lives in private Telegram and WhatsApp groups.
Which banks work for crypto P2P in Casablanca?
Attijariwafa and CIH are the most common, each listed in more than 270 Binance P2P ads in our most recent snapshot, followed by BMCE Bank of Africa and Banque Populaire. Saham Bank, Crédit du Maroc and CFG Bank also appear. Whatever your bank, pay only from an account in your own name, never a relative's.
